Practical answers
What is Hourly Flex Pricing?
A PG&E pilot with hourly electricity prices. PG&E forecasts prices seven days ahead and sets them one day ahead, by 4 p.m. On Flex Alert days PG&E updates them again by 6 p.m. The pilot runs November 1, 2024 to December 31, 2027.
How does the pilot protect my bill?
PG&E bills you on your current rate plan. After each 12 months, PG&E credits you the difference if Hourly Flex Pricing would have cost less.
Who can take part?
Residential customers with a SmartMeter on the Electric Home (E-ELEC) rate plan or the Home Charging (EV2-A) rate plan, including customers who switch to one of them. Community Choice Aggregation customers can enroll when their CCA takes part in the pilot. PG&E's page lists the participating CCAs.
What about solar customers?
Net Energy Metering customers are eligible for Hourly Flex Pricing. PG&E isn't accepting those enrollments right now, so check PG&E's page for updates.
Can I combine it with other programs?
SmartRate can be combined with Hourly Flex Pricing. Check any other demand response program with PG&E before you enroll.
How long does enrollment take?
PG&E asks you to allow 3 to 4 weeks for your application to be processed.
